Moving Out

When the time comes for you to depart, you will want to clear and clean your room and remove your things from the bathroom, kitchen and common parts.

We really appreciate you making a proper effort to clean your room and have removed all your personal belongings.  We get disappointed by the small minority folk who just vacate without having the courtesy to leave their room as they would expect to find it. A dusty room with belongings left behind is the first sign you haven’t tried!

The golden rule is to leave your room and the property in general as you would hope to find it. So on the page below are a few obvious tips how to go about everything…

Clearing and Cleaning Your Room

Pack Your Things

Empty the wardrobe, chests and drawers of all your things and take any pictures, mirrors, and any items of furniture that belong to you

Windows

Using a damp cloth and glass cleaner (you should find these under the kitchen sink or in your cleaner’s cupboard) please clean the inside of the window

Skirting Boards

Using the vacuum with the circular brush attachment clean the skirting boards and then use a damp cloth to wipe any marks that remain

Drawers and Shelves

With your furniture empty clean all drawers and wipe down all surfaces of furniture with a clean damp cloth (i.e. bed, desk, wardrobe, etc)

Sockets and Switches

Using a damp cloth wipe away any marks or dirt from the door handles, door frame, plug sockets and light switches - as they tend to attract fingerprints

Floor - Vacuum and Mop

Vacuum the floor, all areas including behind and under the furniture. Once clear of dust, if it’s a hard floor, give it a mop and wipe away any marks

Blinds and Shutters

Don't forget your blinds or shutters. Vacuuming with the circular hoover brush then wiping with a damp cloth usually does the trick

Behind Furniture

Move the furniture away from the edges of the room and then vacuum under the bed, behind the chests, behind the wardrobe, etc - not just the visible bits

New Mattress Cover

Please purchase a new mattress cover and dispose of your old one. Tesco and Argos sell them, as do Amazon

Your Bathroom

Remove Toiletries

Clear your toiletries and belongings from the bathroom

Clean Sanitaryware

Clean the shower, WC and basin

Leave As You Expect To Find

The golden rule is leave the bathroom as you expect to find it

Kitchen and Common Parts

Cupboards

Pack up your food and utensils stored in the kitchen. Give the cupboards a clean once you have emptied them

Fridge/Freezer

Don’t forget whatever you have in the fridge and freezer. Give your shelves / drawers in the fridge a deep clean

Common Parts

Remove your stuff from the common parts, the cupboards and (if you have one) the cellar

Some Things Not To Do…

Miss Hidden Detritus

Please don’t leave dust and debris behind the furniture or on top of the skirting board. Clean the hard-to-see areas too - under the bed, behind the wardrobe, inside the cupboards

Dump Unwanted Stuff

Please don’t leave rubbish in the common parts. If you have large items you don’t want, we would prefer you left them visibly in your room for us to dispose of and notified us accordingly

Overfill the Bins

Your housemates will need to use the bins for normal refuse after you depart so please don’t put bulky items in them. Make a proper arrangement to dispose of unwanted items

Final Things…

Keep Us Updated

Send us regular text updates about your departure timetable and definitely tell us when you have vacated the property so we can return your deposit promptly

Mail Redirection

Have a think about who has the house as your mail address and let them know your address has changed. Set up an automatic mail redirection via Royal Mail

Leaving Your Key

When you're ready to depart please leave your key somewhere visible - on your bedside table, desk or chest of drawers. We will then inspect your room and return your deposit if all is well.

Move Out Procedure - Fees

If you've completed all the move-out steps mentioned above, rest assured that no fees will be incurred! We appreciate your attention to detail in leaving the property in great condition.

In the event that the specified move-out steps have not been followed and there's a need for cleaning, item removal, or furniture repair or redecoration due to negligence, a fee will be applied. Please remember that any fee under £100 cannot be deducted from your deposit.
